Meadowlands YMCA Policies

The YMCA is a membership organization, active in over 90 countries around the globe. With any of the various types of membership offered at the Meadowlands Area YMCA, an individual becomes part of this worldwide fellowship of men, women, and children. Meadowlands YMCA is non-profit organization that embraces the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. As a member, you agree to adhere to these values. If at any time your behavior does not align with these values, the YMCA has the right to revoke your membership status.

  • Men’s and Women’s locker rooms, steam rooms, and saunas are reserved for adults (18+). Youth members may use the Girls and Boys Locker Rooms.
  • Gender neutral Family Bathrooms are available for those with children or special needs.
  • Children ages 11 and 12 years old are permitted to use the cardio deck area with direct adult supervision after completing the Youth Wellness Orientation. Must wear a red wristband provided by the Welcome Desk.
  • Children under the age of 12 may NOT be in the facility without a parent/guardian on the premises. The YMCA reserves the right to confirm a child’s age.
  • Youth facility members ages 9 -11 can utilize the gymnasium and swimming pool while adhering to gym and pool rules. A guardian MUST be on the premises of the YMCA for the duration of the youth member’s visit.
  • Youth facility members ages 0 – 8 must be under DIRECT Parental or Guardian supervision whenever they are at the YMCA, unless they are enrolled in a YMCA Program or in YMCA Childwatch. “Direct supervision” means that the parent/guardian is in the facility area with the child (i.e. in the swimming pool, in the gymnasium).
  • Children ages 0 – 10 are not allowed in the Wellness Center.
  • Children over the age of 5 are permitted in the appropriate locker rooms as stated in locker room policies.
    NOTE: Guardians must be age 18 or older.
    Non-Facility Members: Children are only permitted in the facility to attend the YMCA program they have registered for. Parent/guardian must enter the building with the child and remain on the YMCA premises for the duration of the program.
  • No swearing or yelling
  • No speakers or playing your own music out loud
  • No bags or backpacks
  • Shirts and shoes required
  • Must wear closed-toed shoes.
  • Spray and wipe down equipment after use.
  • Use collars, a spotter and/or power rack safety catches for improved safety.
  • Lift and lower weights with control.
  • Exercise in designated areas only.
  • Return weights to appropriate rack and unload machines after use.
  • Chalk is not permitted in the wellness center.

 

  • All Children age 12 and younger must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times while in the gym.
  • Glass bottles/containers and food shall be prohibited
  • Wearing proper athletic shoes and shirts is always required. Shoes must be close-toed and non-marking.
  • Dunking, hanging, or pulling on the basket rims is not allowed.
  • Courts are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • YMCA equipment may only be given out by staff and is limited to certain times.
  • Music is not allowed to be played without individual headphones. Do not use electronic devices (cell phone, audible pager, computer, etc) in ways that disturb others.
  • Vandalizing, defacing or stealing facility property is strictly prohibited.
  • Profane language, spitting, sexual harrasment, discrimination, intimidation, lewd and sexual acts, and verbal or physical disputes will not be tolerated.
  • Usage of any and all smoking products (tobacco, electronic cigarettes, etc) alcohol, or illegal drugs is strictly forbidden.
  • Treat other members and staff with respect.
  • YMCA management and staff will enforce any rule(s) as deemed necessary to ensure the safety of the gym for our members and guests.
  • Use of non-Meadowlands YMCA staff for personal or group training in any department is strictly prohibited. In addition members may not train other members and any solicitation of YMCA staff for outside private training is strictly prohibited.

In Child Watch, children ages 2 to 10 years old play under the supervision of caring, trained Y staff. For the safety of children, every parent or guardian using the Child Watch service will be required to sign in and sign out on the log sheets in the Child Watch area. The parent/guardian who drops their child off must also be the one to sign out the child. There is a 90 minute limit of this service per day. Child Watch is operated on a first come, first served basis. Children must be potty trained.

A full refund, credit or class switch may only be issued under the following situations: (choice of the participant)
1. The YMCA, for any reason, cancels the class for which a participant has
registered.
2. A participant’s first and/or second request is not available.
Other immediate family members are eligible for a choice of refund, credit or
class switch if they are affected by either of these situations.

 

A refund, credit or class switch may be issued under the following situations (choice of participant):
1. A registered participant requests a switch or cancellation by 5 pm the
business day prior to the start of the session.
2. The participant has a valid medical excuse (a doctor’s note is required in
this instance).

After a session starts – No Refund or switch shall be granted.
A session is considered to have started at 6 AM on the scheduled first day
of the class (regardless of the time that the class meets). This rule does not
apply to any refunds, credits or switches that occur as a result of the YMCA not
being able to accommodate the participant.
Exception- Participants with a valid medical excuse may be issued a credit
slip if the request is made in writing to the YMCA prior to the conclusion of the
session (a doctor’s note is required in this instance).

Participants shall allow at least 2 weeks for refunds and credits slips to be
issued. The Meadowlands YMCA reserves the right to change the refund policy.

Memberships may be terminated by filling out a cancellation form online or in person before the 15th of the month prior to the draft. If cancelling after the 15th of the current month, the draft will still be in effect the following month. It will then be stopped the next month. If a member chooses to rejoin the YMCA, they have a period of thirty (30) days in which to rejoin without paying the initial, non-refundable, joining fee.
